Being born in a small village of Punjab, in an agricultural family, having no industrial background and experiencing real life in Industrial hub, Ludhiana,(Punjab), R.D Sharma always dreamt of being a global entrepreneur.
It was back in 1994 when R.D Sharma along with his entrepreneurial wife, Rekha started as a 100% export oriented unit, ‘Safari International’. It’s very usual of the companies to grow from domestic market to going international, but this young couple had some different plans for their business. In less than six years, the company sold bicycles to almost half the world in around 75 countries. In less than a decade, Safari International bloomed into a Group of Industries dealing in bicycles, tricycle rickshaws, machineries, fitness equipment’s, etc. The concept of entrepreneurship as envisaged by R.D Sharma was not to ‘Look Back’. He imbued with enthusiasm, combined with his qualities of enterprise, hard work and strong will power, brought up the company to new heights from the scratch with the help of highly motivated team and innovative ideas. The company soon graduated to manufacturing unit for the domestic market launching with more than 40 unique models with the manufacturing capacity of a thousand bicycles per day at that time which upgraded to 2 million bicycles per annum at present.
At this point his younger brother, Suresh Sharma also joined him in the battle of being No.1 after completing his engineering. The vision of Safari family was to establish the name at global platform as a Quality product.
Being the only Indian Bicycle company winning International awards, R.D Sharma was titled “Bicycle Tycoon” by a national business magazine in the year 2001. All the limelight and fortune gave the company more strength, motivation and urge to grow the company into a Conglomerate.
